Allergens: Mold and Dust Mites

Because the dry vapor cleaner can kill dust mites, mold, mold mites and bacteria on contact, it is ideal for use in preventing allergic reactions. The water molecules also trap dust, dander and pollen while the heat pulls these particles out of the treated surface, allowing you to pick up these particles  before they become airborne.

Follow this link to read about the experimental outcome of using steam to treat dust mites in the journal of Clinical and Experimental Allergy. Vol. 25. pp. 1061 1066. Submitted 1 December, 1994; revised 20 April 1995: accepted 8 May 1995.

Just reading the Summary on the first page will convince you how effective steam is in the treatment of dust mites. Reading further will inform you that using dry steam to treat carpets in the manner advised by the researchers resulted in a dust mite population of nearly ZERO in their steamed samples for up to three months

As for mold, with proper use of the steam cleaner, opening windows after use, dry steam allows you to kill the mold without worrying about promoting new growth. The amount of moisture that remains quickly evaporates leaving a dry surface  free of mold and their spores.

Unfortunately, mold spores are always present in the air, and in great quantity here in the foggy SF Bay so there is no guarantee that a new population will not take hold sometime after treatment. To prevent future mold infestation, proper ventilation and moisture control are key.
